Kerri: Hi, I saw your tag on garf's page and it caught my interest so I had to visit. I enjoyed my visit and your humor. I do hope the danger of fire has passed for you now. That would be really hard dealing with. Scarier in someways than our hurricanes.
giraffeview: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!Thanks for all the good stories & views. Have a terrific day!
Garf: care to exchange link?
pmsmom: Thanks for your concern Sami. I left a tag on your board. San Diego is on the road to recovery but it will be a long road.

giraffeview: Hi - it has been awhile again since we've heard from you. Is there just too much pms stress, or absolutely nothing about which to rant & rave? All the best.

giraffeview: Hi - great to see you back! I created a tag last evening, but apprently it did not "stick"! It is beautiful in my area - great tennis weather; but news reports from your way are, indeed, frightening! Take care of yourself.
PMS Mom: Sorry I haven't posted lately, giraffeview- but I will try to be more regular!

School has started again!

Well, the summer is over!  Well, it's over because school has started but weather-wise it is not nearly over.  I has been SO hot here that I have had to use the A/C for at least the last 4 days. I usually try not to turn on the A/C since 1) it costs a fortune to run now a days with electric rates the way they are and 2) the electric company is always asking us to conserve energy.  However, with the humidity from the hurricanes that have passed near by and the heat of 100 degrees plus (very unusual since we're normally around 80 here) it has been unbearable for the last few days. The weather is suppose to cool over the next few days so I hope we get back to normal soon.

A funny postscript to this story. I was wondering why our bedroom was not cooling down and the A/C seem to be running non stop all day.  Finally, after 4 days of this, my husband went into the attic to check the unit there and found that the A/C ducts had gapped away at one point and we were cooling the attic! Well, that explains the massive electric bills from last year when we had the A/C on. I can't wait to get the new bill this month. At least we found the problem and now my bedroom is again cooler.

I am waiting for my new kitchen cabinets right now. They are being built and sometime this month, I will have the pleasure of living with a noisy, dusty kitchen, while they install them.  I haven't had new cabinets since we remodeled our home about 12 years ago. The cabinets we had put in then were oak (they were in style back then) and have worked very well. However, since they were custom cabinets and were made in California, the varnish they used was not very water resistant. That is due to the laws regarding use of certain chemicals in California. If I had bought cabinets that were pre-made in another state, they could have used a stronger varnish that would have lasted longer. As my brother says, the other states don't mind if their workers grow an extra arm. It only means that the employees can work faster with 3 arms! Here in California, the government wants only 2 armed citizens.   Anyway- I digress.  I chose to put in cabinets that have a synthetic veneer instead of wood. The veneers are so good today that it had the color and texture of wood and even close up, you really can't tell the difference. This veneer should last for a very long time and should not suffer the water damage from drippy fingers that my wood cabinets had. I can't wait for my new kitchen. Of course, new cabinets always mean better tasting food, right?

Hey- if you're reading this post, please take the time to tag me. I will respond to all tags. Thanks.
